Kickball Open 2007

  • WHY: To play kickball, drink, and be merry!

Rough Timeline of Events:

Friday

We will be playing flip-cup at The Exchange Saloon (map) from 9pm-11pm. Feel free to get there early for dinner and grab a few drinks before the flipping begins. DCKickball will be buying the first keg, the rest is up to you guys. We will be keeping track of wins/losses for use in the Tournament the next day (seeding, tie breakers, etc). Bone up on our flip-cup rules when you get a chance.

Saturday (Day)

The Open will be played on the Washington Monument grounds (between 15th and 17th St NW). Please plan on being on the Mall by 10am. Please give yourself plenty of time to Metro or find parking. Games will begin promptly at 11am.

The Open will feature 4 pools of teams, playing 3 games of round-robin. So, you are guaranteed to play at least 3 games on Saturday. The winner of each pool will advance to a single-elimination Final Four tournament to crown the Open Champion. Here’s a rough schedule:

  • 10am: register/set-up
  • 11am: pool play 1
  • 12am: pool play 2
  • 1pm: lunch break
  • 2pm: pool play 3
  • 3pm: semi-finals
  • 4pm: finals

Saturday (Night)

All Open players will be provided with bracelets for the DCKickball Block Party, being held in Adams Morgan. There will be three bars hosting End-of-Season parties for DCKickball’s teams that night:

Your bracelet gets you kickball drink specials at all 3 of these bars from 9pm-midnight. Used to paying $6 for a gin and tonic on a Saturday night? Forget about that noise, get there early, drink cheap, and party with hundreds of other kickballers!

Sunday

Finally, we will be holding a Farewell Brunch at The Front Page (map) at 11am. We will have tables set-up for us and brunch will run from 11am-1pm. We are being hooked-up with the unlimited brunch menu (which includes Mimosas) for $21 (this is about a 7 to 8 dollar discount from the regular price). They will also have $2.50 drafts and $4.50 Bloody Mary’s!

  • a bad-ass commemorative t-shirt (being designed as we speak)

The rules for the tourney will be DCKickball’s Official Rules. Please make sure every player on your roster skims the rules. We’ll shoot-out email updates leading up to the tourney to help point-out specific rules, major differences, etc.

Ok, I’ve reserved a block of rooms (King + fold-out couch) at the Arlington Rosslyn Courtyard by Marriott. Here’s the information:

The room rate is $89/night. The group name is “DCKickball”. Room must be booked by Saturday, July 7th. Space is limited, so I encourage all teams who need to book to do so as soon as possible.

The location is perfect, just a few Metro stops from the fields, and less than a 10 minute drive. Here are just a few amenities that are probably too good for grubby kickballers: pool, free high speed internet and in-room refrigerators.

Can’t Make It To DC?

No worries! After all, didn’t you know July 28th is National Independent Kickball Day? The Little Rock Kickball Association is throwing a Rockin’ Kickball Carnival that entire weekend, and its welcoming players and teams from all leagues to come down to Arkansas for some good ol’ fashion fun!
