Hey Captains,

I know you’ve missed my friendly emails, but I wanted to send along the 2008 Summer Championship Bracket. The bracket includes both Tuesday and Wednesday teams. And I hope you are ready for battle on Saturday!

It is VITALLY important for you to post and certify this week’s games on your DCKSports.com page by 10:00am Thursday so we can post the final standings.

If your team will not be able to field a full team on Saturday, please let Kirsten or I know so we can adjust the schedule accordingly. And since we are on a tight schedule, PLEASE make sure your team arrives 15 minutes prior to the start of the game. We are allowing only a 5 MINUTE grace period after the start of the game. Whichever team is not able to take the field will forfeit.

HOME/AWAY status will be decided by Paper, Rock, Scissors best out of 5 between the opposing team captains. If your captain cannot make the game, a captain must be appointed. Please notify Kirsten or Myself if this is the case.

WHERE WE PLAY
For those who don’t know where we’re playing, check out the detailed map. Look for some energetic (or hungover) board members on the Mall. We’ll have signs marking the location of the four fields.

REFEREES
We need 3 referees per team to ref other games. Every base of every field will be covered. We will have name tags and we will assign people to specific games. If you are one of the 1:15 teams, please send your 3 referees to the field by 12:15. If you are one of the 12:30 teams, please send your referees to the field by 10:45.

Volunteer to Sort Food Donations with DCKickball

Post season blues got you down? Volunteering is consistently shown to put you in a better mood. DCKickball is looking for volunteers to help sort donations at the Capital Area Food Bank on July 26th.

The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest, public nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area. Each year the CAFB distributes 20 million pounds of food, including 6 million pounds of fresh produce through over 700 member agencies.

The food bank is metro accessible and is located a short walk from the Brookland/Catholic University stop on the red line. All of the details and a link to directions are below.

Times are based on the higher seeded teams getting the late games on the days they play on. Two teams are switching days next week. Also, the higher seeded team gets to pick home or away. Thanks DCKickball Parade Volunteers

A huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped make sure that Garfield didn't escape the DC 4th of July parade. DCKickball volunteers and friends manned the ropes and carried him all the way from 7th to 17th along Constitution. Thanks also to Kim Haugli for helping organize people and making sure everything went smoothly the day of the event.

DCKickball is always looking for volunteer events so if you have an event that you want young able bodied kickball players to help out at, send an email to Matt Toigo (me[AT]matt-toigo.com).

Volunteer with DCKickball for the DC 4th of July Parade

There is nothing more depressing than watching a parade balloon escape and wander off alone into the sky because it didn't have enough people holding its ropes. Organizers for the DC 4th of July Parade are looking for volunteers to help march with the balloons. We need DCKickball volunteers to make sure that Underdog, Garfield, Uncle Sam, American Eagle, and Hello Kitty don't escape the parade and then be shot down making children everywhere cry.

Volunteers will need to meet at Constitution and 7th NW at 9:00AM Friday July 4th. Volunteers will also get a free parade shirt as well. The nearest Metro stop is Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter.

We will be marching from 7th to 17th NW along Constitution and volunteers should be done somewhere between 12:30 to 2:30PM depending on where you were in the parade.

If you want to volunteer, send an email to Matt Toigo (me[AT]matt-toigo.com) with your choice of the above mentioned balloons. If we get enough people we should all be able to be placed on the same balloon. Be sure to let me know by July 3rd. Feel free to bring any friends as well, but make sure to let me know they're coming.

District Registration open to current players

Registration for the Fall Season of District DCK is open to existing players! From the website, click on "register" in the upper left hand corner. Scroll down the next page, "click to register," log in and then choose DCKickball→District→ Fall 2008.

Returning teams get first choice of the days they would like to play. (So if you played Thursday and would like to play on Thursday again, you have first choice of a team slot for that day of the week over another team that didn't play District Thursdays, even if they are returning players.)
District only plays on Tuesday and Thursday. If you would like to play on another day, please check out other divisions of DCK.
Your group will not be promoted to team status until you have at least 12 PAID players registered.
Registration is open until TENTATIVELY July 14. That means, registration might have to close sooner than that if all spots fill up. We might go a bit longer if we still have spots open. We will try to keep you updated as much as possible on the status of registration.
When signing up a team, please be mindful that if you don't think your team will be able to make most of the games, you might not want to sign up. Forfeiting your games is not fun for your team, but it is also not fun for the teams that come out to play you.
Registration for the general public will start June 30.
There are no refunds.

The fall season will begin July 29/31 and last until late September.

Also, we are now recruiting for our fall board! If you want to have a say in how we run things, were we go to party, play kickball for free, or just generally want to drink for free a lot, send erin dot eeb at gmail dot com an email and we can get you signed up!

Capital Conference's Summer 2008 End Of Season Blow-Out!

END OF SEASON PARTY

When: Saturday June 28th

Where: RNR Bar and Lounge (formerly Coyote Ugly) located at 717 6th Street N.W., Washington DC 20001

Time: 7 pm till closing

Drinks: Open bar on all domestic beers and rail mixed drinks.

Cost: FREE FOR DCK PLAYERS, $20 for guests. Since we had some issues with people trying to sneak in friends and then actually yelling at us for calling them on it we are going to be ID’ing people as they arrive. Everyone is welcome however not everyone should be able to drink for free since this is paid for with your registration fees.

The details: We will have the entire third floor and roof top deck. The deck will be open from 7-9 and we’ll have flip cup tables set up out there. At 9 we have to move down to the 3rd floor but rest assured there will still be tables set up there.

We will have access to the first two floors however we will NOT have access to our tab on those floors. There will also be a DJ.
