Capital Pride Parade is seeking Volunteers: The Capital Pride parade is being held on Saturday, June 13th at 6:30pm and DCK is looking to participate in the Adopt-A-Block program, which allows groups to volunteer together while having a great view of the parade. Volunteer groups are responsible for basic crowd control by helping to keep people out of the intersections, as well as answering questions from parade spectators. Groups must be registered by Friday, May 29th, 2009. Please email Anna Fisher (anna.fisher1@gmail.com) to register if you’re interested in joining the DCK group. More information can be found on the Capital Pride website at www.capitalpride.org or by emailing volunteer@capitalpride.org.
We’ve had such a great response to registration that all our spots are now filled up and we have to close registration. If you wanted to play for District and weren’t able to sign up in time, feel free to check out the other divisions of DCK.
We’ve had such a great turnout that we are now closing District registration Friday, March 6 at 5PM or when we reach capacity—which ever happens first.
So please get your friends to sign up if they haven’t already. Once registration is closed, it’s closed. If they don’t sign up in time, the 3 other divisions of DCK are still accepting new players.

Theme: HALLOWEEN—best costume gets a prize!
Drumroll please….we’ve reserved the WHOLE brewery for our last party of the year. So come, bring all your friends, and throw down DCK-style!
This will surely be our best party yet – in addition to having the whole bar, ,b>we will also have an open bar featuring ALL beers and rail liquor. Note that ODB has 15 of its own beers on tap …. done deal, right? If you’ve never heard of ODB, it’s DC’s first micro-brewery…and it’s awesome. Don’t forget that the party is Halloween-themed…so wear a costume! Best costume wins a prize…
The cost will be $10 for DCK members and $20 for non-DCK members. A steal.
Additionally, we will be raffling for charity! All proceeds will go to Kicking For Kids Who Can’t (http://kickingforkidswhocant.org/). If you or your company is able to provide anything for “donation” to the raffle, please contact Anna at anna.fisher1@gmail.com. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets.
The Fall 2008 District season has come to an end. The “A” Team defeated The Team Formerly Known as Purple Rain in the Fall 2008 District Championship title match on the National Mall. The final score was 6-0. This capped off an intense day of play by all the teams, but it was a dominating performance by The “A” Team that sealed the deal.
We hope everyone had a great time this season and that everyone will be back for the Spring 2009 season!
From Left to Right: Kenneth Westling, Megan O’Meally, Jason Kurtis, Anna Fisher, Wesley Gee
Jason Kurtis (The “A” Team aka TAT) – President
This is now my 7th season playing DCKickball. For those of you that played in the past, you may know me as the captain of the red team, blue team or TAT. I went to American University and have been living in the DC area going on 7 years now. I work as a Producer and Video Editor at National Geographic.
Why you should know me
You should know me because I enjoy using extravagant gambles/strategies in games (kickball included) that often just barely help, and more often blow up and make thing much worse. Either way its entertaining.
Why you should fear me out on the fields
My team has won 4 out of the last 5 DCK District Championships. I guess you could say we are the team to beat.
Anna Fisher (I Immediately Regret This Decision) – President
My name is Anna – but for those of you that played in previous years, you may remember me as the loud-mouth native Pittsburgher who was the captain of Balls Deep. More often than not, I’m known for breaking out in song and dance while waiting for people to get organized for flip-cup (I personally blame the ADD), occasionally dancing like a fool to Michael Jackson or Your Love by The Outfield, and organizing large-scale games of Speed Quarters. A little about me – I grew up in Pittsburgh (n’at), went to PITT, and relocated to DC in 07. This is my 3rd season on the board, and 4th season with DCK, and Jason and I are ready to run the season with the most and best events yet.
Why you should know me
Other than the fact that Jason and I give out the free beer? I believe my picture speaks volumes. Never a dull day.
Why you should fear me out on the fields
I don’t catch like a girl. I may or may not be known for extreme intimidation as well.
What I do when I’m not kicking
I’m a Configuration Manager for BAE Systems. Trust me, it’s not nearly as boring as it sounds.
Position
Pitcher – oh, and GO STEELERS. Being from Pittsburgh, I feel I’m obligated to say that at least once in here.
This is now my 7th season playing DC Kickball. From our early days as the Alcobalics to our current name The “A” Team (TAT), DC Kickball has always been a great place to meet new people. This will be my first season as captain of TAT and I hope to bring home our 5th DCK District Championship this season.A little info about me…I’m originally from Finland but I was born in the Philippines.I’ve been in the US since 2003 and I’m currently pursuing my MBA.
Why you should know me
Because I bring the thunder, just make sure you don’t get lost in the storm!
Why you should fear me out on the fields
My team has won 4 DCK District Championships. I guess you could say we are the team to beat.
Megan O’Meally (I immediately Regret this Decision) – Charity
My name is Megan – I grew up in Georgia and graduated from Auburn University – War Eagle! I moved to DC about a year ago, and this is my first season on the board as well as playing kickball with DCK (although you may have seen me around attending DCK parties, playing flip cup, the Booz Cruise, etc ).
Why you should know me
I’ll be the one to talk to if you’re interested in participating in any charity events and giving back to the community. Although we are quite the bunch of partiers, we’re still good people and can’t wait to help our Nation’s Capitol and its charities out whenever we can. If you have any great ideas or charities that you currently support, feel free to contact me, and I’ll do my best to pull something together. Get excited for some great charity events/parties this season
What I do when I’m not kicking
I work in the Public Affairs office at ExxonMobil.
This is my third season playing in the District division and first year on the board.I grew up right outside of DC, went to University of Maryland College Park and then moved to DC.This fall I’m starting law school at Catholic University, so I haven’t exactly strayed far from home.
Why you should know me
I’m in charge of the rules.I’m in charge of the schedule. If you’ve got any game related questions I’m the one to ask
Why you should fear me out on the fields
I play shortstop and pretty much get to anything kicked in my general direction, so I’d recommend kicking away from me.Also, my team has won the division every season I’ve played, so needless to say, we’re pretty good. We’ll be holding tryouts for the 2010 summer season shortly after the conclusion of this season.
What I do when I’m not kicking
I’m a huge Caps fan and try to go to as many games a season as possible. For the last few months I’ve been unemployed collecting unemployment checks paid for by the hardworking taxpayers of the District of Columbia. So, if you live in D.C., I’d just like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you for paying for my twice weekly tee times.

We will have the outdoor patio as a designated flip-cup area! (It closes at midnight.)
Pitchers are for flip cup only – like the preseason parties, captains are designated runners for the pitchers and should see the board for wristbands.
We’ll have the entire bar reserved for DCK for the entire night!
The more, the merrier – feel free to bring as many guests as you’d like! You’ll need to show your ID at the door, as well as tell the person at check-in your team name.
