Bitch Be Cool
There is nothing more depressing than watching a parade balloon escape and wander off alone into the sky because it didn't have enough people holding its ropes. Organizers for the DC 4th of July Parade are looking for volunteers to help march with the balloons. We need DCKickball volunteers to make sure that Underdog, Garfield, Uncle Sam, American Eagle, and Hello Kitty don't escape the parade and then be shot down making children everywhere cry.
Volunteers will need to meet at Constitution and 7th NW at 9:00AM Friday July 4th. Volunteers will also get a free parade shirt as well. The nearest Metro stop is Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter.
We will be marching from 7th to 17th NW along Constitution and volunteers should be done somewhere between 12:30 to 2:30PM depending on where you were in the parade.
If you want to volunteer, send an email to Matt Toigo (me[AT]matt-toigo.com) with your choice of the above mentioned balloons. If we get enough people we should all be able to be placed on the same balloon. Be sure to let me know by July 3rd. Feel free to bring any friends as well, but make sure to let me know they're coming.

END OF SEASON PARTY
When: Saturday June 28th
Where: RNR Bar and Lounge (formerly Coyote Ugly) located at 717 6th Street N.W., Washington DC 20001
Time: 7 pm till closing
Drinks: Open bar on all domestic beers and rail mixed drinks.
Cost: FREE FOR DCK PLAYERS, $20 for guests. Since we had some issues with people trying to sneak in friends and then actually yelling at us for calling them on it we are going to be ID’ing people as they arrive. Everyone is welcome however not everyone should be able to drink for free since this is paid for with your registration fees.
The details: We will have the entire third floor and roof top deck. The deck will be open from 7-9 and we’ll have flip cup tables set up out there. At 9 we have to move down to the 3rd floor but rest assured there will still be tables set up there.
We will have access to the first two floors however we will NOT have access to our tab on those floors. There will also be a DJ.
IT’S PLAYOFF WEEK! The brackets are in pdf form on the Capital Conference main page.
Sixteen teams will be whittled down to eight teams this week. Saturday morning, the remaining eight will be whittled down to four. Then those final four teams will play their hearts out in pursuit of the The Peoples Cup and at least a full year of bragging rights.
The playoffs can be crazy, and we’re not just talking about upsets. We’re talking about the schedule itself. As we proceed through the playoffs, some teams might not be playing on their “normal” night. Some Wednesday teams might be playing on Thursday and vice versa. So please check the schedule closely.
Also, games will start at 10 am on Saturday. If you make it to the second round, please be there on time. We are starting at 10 am to ensure we have fields and to take advantage of the somewhat cooler weather earlier in the day.
Also keep in mind that forfeits are frowned upon in the playoffs. Yes, a few players might be coming down with a case of kickball fatigue. But the playoffs are the remedy for that. It doesn’t get more fun or more thrilling than playoff kickball on the Mall!
If, however, you’re pretty sure your team is going to have to forfeit a playoff game, give the opposing team ample notice. (No one wants to get punked by showing up and then not playing.)
AND please note that all teams still must provide side umpires on the day they play. If you play a late game, please provide an early ump; and vice versa.
PLAYOFF SCHEDULE 2008!!!!
A big kickball thank you to Marc England, Captain of Your Mom’s Team for putting together the final expanded standings and playoff schedule for us.
Times are based on the higher seeded teams getting the late games on the days they play on. Two teams are switching days next week. Also, the higher seeded team gets to pick home or away. Away teams kick first. On Saturday, June 28th we are going to have a 10AM start time if your team advances that far.

FINAL – THE PEOPLES CUP GAME
Because this will be an all-day event, we encourage teams to bring picnics and beverages if you’d like!
We do not have permits for Saturday fields, so we will be holding fields early that day. This means that we may not be playing at our regular location. Please call Erin that day (313.409.0253) if you cannot locate us. Also note that there will be another division of DCK playing that day, so make sure you have the correct division.

DCKickball turned-on the money hose and sprayed out $695 in referral rewards to 53 different DCKickballers! The high-water mark was set by Kristen Novey (Columbia Division → Schweaty Balls) who referred 13 new players to DCKickball. Keep it up!
The End of Season Party for the District Division will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 18th & Red in Adams Morgan. We will have the entire bar from 9:00pm to 12:00am unless we don’t have 250 people by 10:30pm. If that is the case, we will have the top floor only, however, the lower bar will still honor wristbands. The DJ starts promptly at 9pm! More info below:

On Sunday, June 1st DC Kickballers weathered the storm and convened at our sponsor bar, The Exchange, to compete in one of DCKickballs most loved events, this season’s Flip Cup tournament. 12 teams entered the tournament with hopes of being crowned Flip Cup’s finest, but only 1 team, small in size but big in spirit, would emerge as the Flip Cup Champions – and that title goes to The Nuts of Justice.
The round-robin event began at 2 pm with teams assuming their positions at the flip cup tables ready to face their competitors. True sportsmanship was evident early on as those teams lacking players combined so that everyone could participate and enjoy the debauchery. With game faces on, each team played their hardest to gain a spot in the finals. Although not everyone can be a winner, the loud cheers, high fives and hugs abounded, ensuring that everyone was having a good time.
During the competition two teams emerged as the leaders, the boisterous, spirited Smooches and the small, unassuming Nuts of Justice. While both teams played exceptionally well, as Greg Kruchko, Smooches, commented, “I thought we played great all the way up to the end. Great spirit then lost to a one flip team.” The Nuts of Justice, with only 4 players, came out ahead and beat the smooches to claim the championship! Hallene Gabel, Elizabeth Do, Tucker Reardon and Adam Nelson made up the small team with a big appetite that took the tournament. Their estimated total beer consumed per person was 160 – 192 oz equaling 4.8 to 5.8 liters of beer! Nelson was happy, still sportsmanlike to the very end, and wanted everyone to know, “Just because we are better at flip cup than you doesn’t make us better people, it just gives us beer bellies, but it sure is fun to win!”
Congratulations to The Nuts of Justice!
