Kickball Koncert 07 posted by crabasa on May 31st

DCKickball is putting on a show. Down from the Big Apple, the power trio of Moyer will be putting on a show at Solly’s (11th and U St NW) to benefit the DCKickball Legal Defense Fund.

We’ve never put on a show like this before, and can’t wait! Solly’s, in case you haven’t been, is an awesome U St bar where the $3 PBR’s are a staple. All DCKickballers are invited, and their friends too! Make sure to show up early, the upstairs maxes out at 75 peeps!

  • When: Friday, June 29th (8pm-10pm)

District: Today's Games posted by crabasa on May 31st

So, I’m sitting here typing this post on my laptop smack dab in the middle of the National Mall. Pretty nice trick, huh? So, it seems that free, public Wi-Fi access can be had if you’re close enough to the Smithsonian. My signal is awfully weak, but it’s getting the job done.

So, today’s games. I am currently sitting to the west of 7th St. Some softball players are holding the fields to the east of 7th, and the entire Mall is spotted with these infernal Folklife Festival tents. So, while space is at quite a premium, I think we’re all set. So please make you’re way to 7th St for today’s games!

AdMo: Policies Effective Immediately posted by adamsmorgan on May 31st

Dear Kickballers,

I regret to inform you that the actions of few have now affected the many. It seems that some have forgotten that IT’S JUST KICKBALL! We are out there to have fun and enjoy hanging out with our friends in a game of kickball then head to the bar for some flip cup.

Due to the issues that were raised yesterday, Behavior at the Park, the AdMo Board is now forced to take action. We (the Board) feel these actions are not only necessary, but will also come with severe penalty.

1. “Comments” If an individual, or team, is caught disrespecting (either in a racist manner or otherwise) another individual (kickball or park patron) they will be asked to leave the fields immediately and will not be welcomed at the bar following that day’s games.

2. Alcohol If an individual, or team, is caught drinking alcohol on the fields, they will be asked to pour out and throw away the beverage immediately. If they refuse to follow the instructions, they will be asked to leave the fields immediately and will not be welcomed at the bar following that day’s games.

Examples based on past experiences i. Brown Bagging at the fields ii. Liquor Bottles at the fields iii. Mixing at the fields iv. Any alcoholic labeling at the fields v. Etc.

3. Two Strikes and You’re Out! If an individual, or team, is caught breaking either or combination of (2 Comments or 2 Alcohol or a Comment and Alcohol), both new policies, that individual, or team, will not be permitted to participate in ANY post-season events. This includes and not limited to, All-Star game, Playoffs, Post-Season Party, etc.

If there is a strong need to hydrate for the games, please do so prior to arriving at the fields or hold off until we have left the fields at our sponsor bar.

The Board, Captains and Referees are expected to enforce these new policies. Captains and Referees should find a Board Member before final call is made. But we (the Board) feel that it’s the responsibility of everyone involved with kickball to assist in enforcing these policies as well. Everyone should feel the need to protect our fields. They are our home away from homes; a place that we gather and enjoy together.

Playing at Walter Pierce Park is a privilege. Let’s all do our parts to protect this privilege.

Sunday Specials Added! posted by crabasa on May 30th

The specials for Sunday kickball at Hamilton’s have gotten, well, more special:

  • all day $3 bloody marys and mimosas
  • $5 pitchers till 3pm

So, looking for a reason to pre-game before heading down to the Mall? Looking for that perfect excuse to head to the bar after your 1pm game? Look no further!

AdMo: Behavior at the Park posted by adamsmorgan on May 30th

I’m upset that this email has to be a solemn one. All of the kickball leagues that play at Walter Pierce Park received the email below from the ANC Vice-Chair.

Not only has she received numerous complaints about alcohol consumption at the park (which isn’t allowed) but also there have been complaints about racist comments made to the basketball players.

If complaints of this nature continue, we could lose our field permits and be unable to complete the season (or not even receive field permits in the future).

Please be kind to the other users of the park. Don’t bring alcohol to the fields; I don’t want to be the bad guy who has to confiscate and dispose of alcohol in the park.

Subject: Problems with kickball at Pierce Park

It’s come to my attention from several people who frequent Walter Pierce Park on a daily basis with their children, dogs or to play basketball say that the “kickballers” are once again drinking alcohol in the park.

I’ve not personally witnessed it myself, but enough different people who have no connection to each other have approached me about this that I’m inclined to believe it’s true. Also, I have no idea which night this is happening so I don’t know if it’s a WAKA or a DCKickball problem or both, so that’s why I’m emailing both groups.

I would ask you to please remind your members that it is against the law to drink in public parks and that they are just as obligated to obey the laws of D.C. as anyone else is.

While the drinking definitely disturbs me, what troubles me most is that a couple of the basketball players have told me they have been the recipients of comments from the folks playing kickball that can only be seen as racist. This will absolutely, positively not be tolerated.

I’ve not said anything to anyone at DPR or MPD about the drinking or the racial comments because I would hope that we could all work together to make sure this stops and stops immediately.

Thanks,
Mindy

AdMo: Week Off! posted by adamsmorgan on May 24th

You’ve made it through Week 6 with only a couple bruises and hangovers (I hope). So we think you deserve a week off.

Yep, because of the long weekend, we’re not having games next week. Week 7 games are on June 4th and 6th.

Enjoy your long weekend!

Discord in WAKA posted by crabasa on May 23rd

Holy smokes! Check-out this breaking story in the Washington City Paper:

According to the Virginia Lawyers Weekly, the three other founders apparently decided that Humphrey wasn’t pulling his weight and voted him out of the limited-liability corporation that owns WAKA and takes in millions of dollars in dues. Then they filed a lawsuit against Humphrey in circuit court in Fairfax County alleging he was tampering with the group’s Web site. (WAKA brass is big on Web-site chicanery, having bought up the dckickball.com domain name after Rabasa announced his intention to form a rival league.) Then Humphrey filed a countersuit against the other three, using all sorts of grownup words like “fiduciary” to say that his apparently ex-pals ripped him off.

AdMo: Games On Tonight posted by adamsmorgan on May 16th

I know it looks ominous, but (since it isn’t actually raining) games are going to be played tonight.

If there is a downpour right before the games, then go straight to the bar, otherwise please head to the fields first. If it’s drizzling, we will play.

Man Bunting: Friend of Foe? posted by crabasa on May 16th

From the We Don’t Roll on Shobbos Blog

The Man Bunt is what bothers me the most about kickball. The Man Bunt occurs when someone who appears to be male steps up to the plate in kickball and then daintily taps the ball in front of home plate.

AdMo: Midseason Party posted by adamsmorgan on May 14th

As I sit here at my desk this morning eating my Philippine dried mangoes and reflect on the weekend, it has occurred to me that I haven’t sent out any info regarding the mid-season party. Lets start with the basics. Here is a little information that I hope will deem useful.

WHO: DCK Adams Morgan Div

WHAT: Mid-season party (open bar)

WHEN: Saturday the 9th of June 2007 from 8 pm to Midnight

WHERE: Hamilton’s Bar & Grill located at 233 2nd Street, NW D.C. (2 blocks from Union Station Metro)

COST: $10 for kickballers and $20 for non-kickballers/guests

Additional Notes

There will be two lines at the door, one for people that have pre-paid and another for those that haven’t. The line that’s pre-paid should move faster than the other. If you would like to pre pay, there will be a table set up at the bar on Monday and Wednesdays. Also you can also pre register and pay for guests.

Due to the overwhelming number of people that said they could care less about a theme, dress is casual (whatever you want to wear).

Don’t forget to bring small bills to take care of the bartenders.

As always if you have any questions, feel free to contact any of the board members or myself.

Cheers!!!

Participate! Ask your favorite bars to join, and make sure to come out on Tuesday night.

Remember, there is NO KICKBALL on Tuesdays, so there is NO EXCUSE!

From Mindy Moretti
ANC1C Vice Chair
Commissioner, ANC1C04

Clean up Walter Pierce Park for the spring/summer season on Saturday May 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

We’ll be picking up trash, pulling weeds and spreading mulch. Equipment and gloves will be provided, but if you’ve got a favorite rake, broom or shovel, feel free to bring it along.

If you can’t make the clean up, but still want to contribute to the ongoing maintenance of this great community park, please visit our Web site (www.walterpiercepark.org).

Referral Payments posted by crabasa on May 2nd

This is just a quick note that if you were one of the dozens of kickballers that brought new blood into the league and participated in our referral program, I am in the process of tabulating those payments. The referral numbers were frozen once registration for your division closed, so it’s simply a matter of running the numbers and sending out the payments via PayPal. This process should be complete by the middle of next week. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for helping DCKickball spread the word!

Got Teddy? Last Team Standing! posted by crabasa on May 1st
