Say hi to Trenae Simpson, our 1,000th Facebook fan! Besides being wicked smaht (Boston zing) she is a proud member of Teachers Who Kick It, playing on Sundays in the Constitution Division.
“I signed up for DCKickball because I think it’s a great way to meet people and experience DC. Also, kickball is a fun sport that everyone remembers from their childhood. I’m really happy that I joined!”
I am just super excited about this, and I’m looking forward to seeing how we can make way better use of Facebook (and Twitter and other social services) to really connect our DCKickball community. Between this summer and fall, we’ve had over 4,300 people kicking balls and drinking beer with us in 2009. Pretty nice way to celebrate our 5th year!
I’ll let you draw your own conclusions, but I think this column was a sneaky little love letter to DCKickball. Sure, it sounds snarky. But underneath it all, I think Amanda Hess secretly longs for the thrill of victory, the glory of flip-cup, and a night with a pirate. But maybe I’m giving her too much credit.
DCKickball would like to invite you and all of your non-kickball friends to the Sept 12th game of DC United vs the Seattle Sounders. This is a soccer game folks (YAWN…..just kidding!), but not just any soccer game! This is DCKickball, so we’re gonna do this RIGHT!
BEFORE the game:
We’re gonna have an all-out FREE tailgate for you, complete with FREE kegs of beer and food. This means flip-cup, beer pong tables, and everyone’s favorite: BEER-IN-HAND Kickball on the DC United practice fields! You thought kickball was fun? Wait till you try to kick, throw and run around the bases all the while holding a beer in your hand! Aaaahh-mazing.
DURING the game:
We have a huge block of seats in the 200-level section, roughly at mid-field, right behind the crazy fan section known as La Barra Brava. If you’ve never been to a DC United game before, these fans are absolutely NUTZ and you’ll get to join them while they chant, sing and dance through the entire game. You’ll probably spend half the time watching them as much as the game itself. Viva la wacky fans!
So whatcha waiting for? Round up your BFFs and come out for a whole day and night of day drinking. Price is $26. Hurry up though, cause this event has limited spots and again, it’s an open invitation to all DCKickball and their non-kickball friends too!

If anyone has a truck and/or grill and would like to help out with transportation and setup, please let us know. We’ll buy your ticket for you!
Referrals for the Summer 2009 season have gone out. This season our DCKickball veterans brought on-board 166 new players to the tune of $830 in Referral Rewards! The high-water mark this season goes to Jason Kurtis (District Divison), who brought a mind-boggling 19 new players into his division.
DCKickball is excited to introduce a new division this summer! The Veterans Division (est. 2009) will be playing on Thursday evenings on the National Mall. This is the our 8th division, and we’re really excited to offer another opportunity for people to be a part of DCKickball and help us make our 5th year of kicking balls and flipping cups a memorable one!
